We See This Coming In 2016

You can't see everything coming, but if you are paying attention you can see a lot. Here are a few predictions for 2016 that Linda and I put together.

- private gas powered vehicles will be less desirable
- most people will be thinking more about the price of food and less about the price of the latest iFad.
- smaller houses/condos will be more popular
- community will be more important
- it will be a good time to be mobile and adaptable
- the rich will get richer, and the rest will get stronger and more organized
- climate change will alter how we do everything
- voluntary simple living will continue to gain traction
- tvs will be put on the endangered list, as will produce from California
- backyard (or front yard) gardens will make a big come back

We live in interesting times. It is certain to be a banner year.

Here we go.

  1. Here's another to add to the list:

-- we will gain a much greater appreciation of clean water and become more conscientious about conserving it

Leaving you with a brilliantly insightful classic written by Bob Dylan and sung here by Tracy Chapman,

"...for the times they are a changin'"

    Great list.

I'm personally looking forward to the smaller homes item on your list. I've talked this over with so many people. There are lots and lots of adults who saw their parents taking care of a house during their childhoods and don't wish to spend their time doing the same. Also, if you're like me, you don't want to pay to heat or furnish a large home. I wish there were builders designing neighborhoods with smaller, but beautiful, homes and more people buying older homes and renovating them. Very few families, that I know, have enough family members to justify a 5 bedroom house. However, a two bedroom house sounds perfect.

Thanks Gregg, it will almost be a relief if some of these things do happen sooner rather than later. It sometimes feels like the world is in such a slow moving disaster that some (?most?) people are still able to pretend that nothing is wrong and our consumer lifestyles can continue indefinitely.
