A Day Without Women - General Strike

Image selected by Linda.

"The protest on Wednesday stems from the efforts of the organizers of last month’s Women March on Washington. The group called for a national walkout a month ago to coincide with International Women’s Day.
On their website, the organizers wrote that the protest is aimed at “recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system—while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity.”
The organizers are encouraging women to refrain from both paid and unpaid labor and to avoid shopping—unless it’s at a woman-owned establishment. They’re encouraging those who can’t participate in the strike, and men hoping to show support, to wear the color red in solidarity.
They also suggest that men start a conversation about equal pay at work and pitch in with housework at the office and at home. The organizers have also encouraged employers to close or give female staff the day off." - The Atlantic

Just watched this talk by Dr Klaper:https://youtu.be/G2g7iIag4zE
Which talks about the sad life of a female diary cow. Peace to all creatures on this beautiful planet.
    Peace,

    1. Alex,

Compassion to all creatures is a goal to work towards for all of us.

  2. I participated yesterday, wore a red sweater in solidarity, and did not buy anything. I continued today by stopping by a woman owned business I hadn't been to before and asked if the business was woman owned, she said yes and I've made a new friend! She is now connected with our local activist group! It's quite remarkable how large the Women's March was and is and how many more women (and men) have joined this very committed, very active group!

Our local activist group posted a list of women-owned businesses in our small city!

There were quite a few school districts call off school yesterday because so many teachers asked for the day off! Yay!

Men can help with the struggle for women's rights and equal pay. They are being welcomed in our groups. Because it is a patriarchal society, ultimately it is men who have to grant women equality under law. Sobering thought.

Thanks for honoring "A Day Without Women" by writing this post Gregg. Pretty cool that the organizers called for a day without shopping!

    1. Terri,

You are rockin' it! We are feeling inspired by your example. It is good to see there is room for men in the movement - some of us are allies. We need more. The Native March on Washington was something to see. No coincidence that they are rising at this time. They are showing us the way, as usual, if we will only listen. Thanks for keeping us posted - it is hard to keep up lately.

Thank you so much Gregg. Yes indeed, many men are allies, like you. Yes the Native March was amazing. Was just telling someone today, the natives are the root of which many things will grow from. Not hearing much from Chase. I know he has a court date coming up. Worries me. Yes hard to keep up. Take some down time but never give up. They are counting on resistance fatigue and normal life happenings to stop us, but I can tell you, folks on the ground here may rest from time to time, but they are not quitting. I've done something activist wise everyday for over a week, so have many others. Tomorrow is a rest day and catch up at home. Thank you for your support. It matters. More than you might think. I love sharing with you and Linda even if it is written quickly and my enthusiasm runs wild!
Ummm, wasn't able to post comment using my google profile. I Think it changed a setting. Will work on that in future.
